    Meet renowned cheesemakers and top beverage producers, taste incredible pairings, and mingle with fellow industry pros—all in a relaxed, festive setting. Whether you’re here to network or just indulge, this is an evening you won’t want to miss!

    Volunteer:

    The Women's Wine Alliance will have a booth for Industry Night, to encourage new memberships.  By staffing our booth, you'll help raise awareness and grow our membership, directly supporting scholarship funds. Volunteering also counts toward the attendance requirement for scholarship eligibility and offers a valuable opportunity to network with food and beverage professionals.  Contact Lauren Cain at yourfavoritewino@gmail.com to volunteer.

    Uncorking San Diego Wine History with Richard Carrico

    Join the Women's Wine Alliance for a special pre-San Diego Wine Week event celebrating the rich history of winemaking in our region.

    We are thrilled to welcome local author Richard Carrico, whose book, A History of Wines and Wineries in San Diego County, chronicles the fascinating journey of San Diego's viticultural past. Mr. Carrico will share insights from his book, followed by an opportunity to purchase a signed copy for $15.

    The afternoon will continue with a delightful tasting of exquisite wines from San Pasqual Winery, perfectly complemented by a curated charcuterie board. 

    Celebrate our local terroir, sip on San Diego wines, and connect with fellow wine lovers in an evening that blends education, flavor, and community.

    About the Author:


    Richard Carrico is a winemaker and an award-winning author of non-fiction and historical fiction. Richard focuses on eclectic topics that vary from Indigenous people, Spanish colonial history, archaeology, and most recently true crime. Richard grew up in San Diego and attended San Diego High School before serving in the U. S. Army in the late 1960s.

    Richard holds a B.A in History from San Diego State College and a B.A. in Anthropology from San Diego State University. As a postgraduate, he earned an M.A. in History from the University of San Diego. Richard taught history, anthropology, and Native American studies at San Diego State University for thirty years before retiring in 2024.

    Richard has authored more than twenty academic articles that appeared in professional journals and at least twenty articles in popular magazines including SkyWest Spirit, San Diego Home & Garden, San Diego Reader, and Ranch & Coast Magazine. He has published five books on a variety of topics.

    Richard’s A History of Wines and Wineries in San Diego County is in its second edition and is carried by several local wineries. His Strangers in a Stolen Land, the story of San Diego County’s Native Americans, is used as a textbook at several universities. Richard’s most recent book, Monsters on the Loose won second place at the 2024 Book Fest and was a Silver Falchion Award Finalist at the prestigious 2024 Killer Nashville event. His short story, Animals Who Talk, Sing, and Dance received an Honorable Mention Award from Writer’s Digest Magazine. His most recent piece, Habla Espanol? If You Rodeo You Do was published in Cowboy Up rodeo magazine.
